about

...of course it's not as though we aren't complete hypocrites who habitually drive for days in cramped cars to go see some of our favourite musicians perform since nova scotia is maybe a bit of a tough sell for touring bands when you get right down to the logistics of it. we heartily encourage you to go see live music whenever you can. it's incredible!

this album is an experiment, recorded in january 2017 live at our jam space by the "performing band" version of contemporary recorder music. this was originally intended for internal band use only, not intended for public release; however, situations change and it may be awhile (if at all) before we are able to complete a proper recording of the full band's work. this documents the band warts and all, some of the songs we are still in the process of learning, a couple are impromptu jams never to be repeated, and there are technical limitations (particularly around vocal levels) that reflect the rough-and-ready nature of the recordings. nevertheless, listening back a few months later we feel that these recordings present an interesting and entertaining picture of the band at the time, and possibly worth sharing. thank you.

contemporary recorder music is:
mike (aka keith): vocals & guitar
cory (aka rick): vocals & guitar
spant: electric xii guitar
brian: bass
james: drums

recorded live using 4 microphones, a bass di, and a solid state fender princeton line out for both the vocals - not a good princeton, one of those budget ones from the 90's. recorded using a focusrite pro 40 and reaper. recording engineered by mike, edits/processing fairly minimal.

poultry head is by ariel pink. all other songs by contemporary recorder music.
